For every parent

Accessibility

Last updated: 19 July 2026

We want FirstSteps to be usable by as many parents as possible, including those who use assistive technology. Accessibility is an ongoing commitment, not a one time task.

1. What we aim for

We work towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA as our reference standard, and we follow the accessibility guidance of the platforms we build on, including support for the operating system’s accessibility features on iOS and Android.

2. What we do

  • Descriptive labels for controls and meaningful images, so screen readers can describe them.
  • Readable typography, and colour choices chosen for contrast rather than decoration alone.
  • Support for larger system text sizes and respect for reduced motion preferences.
  • Keyboard and assistive touch friendly navigation across the app and website.

3. Ongoing work

We test regularly and improve as we learn. Some areas may not yet be perfect, and we treat accessibility issues as bugs to fix.

4. Tell us

If you hit an accessibility barrier, or you need information in a different format, please tell us at info@firststepsco.com and we will do our best to help and to fix it.
